I'm so pleased I managed to get this blue tit to feed from my hand! It took a lot of patience as I was sticking my hand outside my door as it was snowing, with my camera in my left hand trying to push the shutter button. Not easy, but totally worth it (:
For some reason, not all of the exif data if there: 50mm, f/2 and 1/1250 sec
I'm trying to get this to happen at my house there's a ton of Tufted Titmice, Black Capped Chickadees, Cardinals, and Nuthatches that show up at the feeder Do you think it's easier to hold your hand out the window or stand there with your hand out? I put a glove on the railing with seed in it and have the birds used to that already
I stick my hand out of a door (with glass in it so I can see the birds!) so that they don't see me except my hand. If you haven't already, put feeders close to the window, and put a bit of seed on the window sill, so they get used to being there. Then, put your hand out with seed in it and be patient!
I have two feeders by the window sticking my hand out of the door would make it too far away from the window, and today I tried putting my hand out of the window with some sunflower seeds in it I was looking through some bird magazines and some of the biggest snacks I saw that they like are sunflower seeds, peanut butter, and grape jelly
That's great! I'm sure you'll eventually get there The birds where I live like peanuts the most, but I spread peanut butter on the walls and it's funny watching them cling to it to get to the treat
Yeah, I saw in a Birds and Blooms magazine how to make a peanut butter feeder! me and my dad are going to make that a project and I've come to find that a lot of birds like grape jelly
Beautiful! Part of me wishes the focus was more on the bird rather than the nuts, but then at the same time it's this different focus which makes it so interesting and highlights the interaction with the bird. Well done
Thank you! Yes, I wish I used a slightly narrower aperture, maybe f/2.5, and focused more on the bird. It's hard to get the focus spot on when your using just your left hand though
